Detroit is the home of the Motown Sound but the underbelly had a strong & vibrant blues scene as well. Besides the number one son, John Lee Hooker, there were hundreds of down in the alley performers on Hastings Street. Two of the artists on this compilation represent an atypical sound to what most folks think of as Detroit blues. Johnnie Bassett is a fluent T-Bone inspired guitarist whose urban recordings swing like mad. Alberta Adams has been recording her uptown blues since the early 50's including some sides for CHESS records. Here she is backed by Johnnie Bassett & B-3 player Bill Heid. Thanks to RJ Spangler for his contributions as well! The Butler Twins from Florence Alabama are the down home deal here with romping, stomping blues with that backwoods feel & no nonsense harp & guitar.
