I first heard JIMMY DONLEY via DOUG SAHM back in the 1980's when Doug confided to me that DONLEY was one of the finest songwriters from the Gulf Coast even though his name was rarely mentioned.......An extremely soulful singer, and an extraordinarily prolific writer who was perpetually short of cash, Donley sold most of his songs as soon as he wrote them on the pretext that he could always write another one tomorrow. ........FATS DOMINO covered many of Donley's songs and was a personal friend & confidant. This lovingly compiled set features the original HUEY MEAUX recordings done at COSIMO STUDIOS in New Orleans in amazing sound......All the overdubs that MEAUX put on the various releases have been taken out so you hear the songs as they were originally recorded......This is South Louisiana music at it's best....
