The Texas Southside Kings are an impressive meeting of Texas veterans who were active in the 1950s. They’re joined by two Austin favorites: Gene Taylor (piano) and Mike Keller (guitar). This set of South Texas/ Gulf Coast R&B is a low down collection of sounds seldom heard these days.....honest, straight ahead blues with some of the lesser known players of the gigantic pool of outstanding Lone Star talent. Standouts include sax player Spot Barnett, who used to record with Bobby “Blue” Bland and Ike & Tina Turner in the 1970s, and pianist Big Walter Price (Gatemouth Brown’s roommate).
