This is Jeff's latest solo release and features 12 tracks in a setting dominated by deep Memphis soul and New Orleans funk. The songs deal with travel, loss, loneliness, red hot women and getting yourself a real good ride. A blues sensibility permeates this record, though there's not a 12-bar blues to be found. Guest artists include Rick Holmstrom on guitar, Janiva Magness on background vocals, Steve Mugalian (Mighty Flyers, Dave Alvin) on drums, and Mike Tempo (Bonedaddys) on percussion. There are some tasty guitar and saxophone solos, but the focus is on the songs. Jeff's previous release, "EVERY DAY'S MY LUCKY DAY" was a Bluebeat favorite here for months......his intelligent songwriting and massive instrumental talent along with the special guests show how good contemporary roots music can be.............. 1.
