With a recording career that lasted over forty years, John Watson was one of the very few R&B artists who actually had more success later on rather than in the beginning. Although he was often billed as Johnny "Guitar" Watson, he began his career in music as a pianist, only switching to guitar after several years of recording. The recordings featured here come from Watson's two tenures with King Records. John recorded seven singles for the King subsidiary, Federal, between 1952 and 1954, billed as Young John Watson. Likewise, he also recorded seven additional singles (and an LP) for King between 1961 and 1963. 1. No I Can't 2. Motor Head Baby 3. Highway 60 4. Sad Fool 5. I Got Eyes 6. What's Goin' On 7.
