Nick Curran recorded some of the most authentic and hard assed R&B during his short life as a band leader. As with his two previous releases on Texas Jamboree label, he covers some savage R&B chestnuts and writes tunes that sound like they are from 1952. The title tune (originally by Doc Starkes & the Nightriders) is a jive jumper with gruff vocals and unhurried backup. Guitar guest Jimmy Vaughan contributes his "Johnny Guitar Watson" tones to 2 different songs, including a rough & ready cover of Gatemouth Brown's PEACOCK classic "Midnight Hour" & Freddie Kings "Lonesome Whistle Blues". Gary Primich make a couple significant and tasty contributions with his mouth organ & the band itself shows how to play the sound of classic R&B without being in a big hurry. Highly recommended!
