The Jelly Roll All-Stars are a rare group of musicians comprised of some of the upper echelon of classic Blues session men from the golden age of the genre: Calvin "Fuzz" Jones (Bass) and multiple W.C. Handy Award winner Willie "Big Eyes" Smith (drums/vocals) were the rhythm section for Blues great, Muddy Waters for nearly two decades; Sam Carr (drums) of the Jelly Roll Kings and the Delta Jukes, and son of Robert Nighthawk, and who also performed behind Sonny Boy Williamson II in the 1950's; and Arthur Williams (vocals/harp), who shared stages with Elmore James and Junior Wells. This CD was recorded raw, with no overdubs in the legendary WROX Blues Radio studio in Clarksdale, Mississippi with everyone playing together in real time. Also includes accompanists, Bob Lohr (piano) and Jesse Hoggard (guitar) The "Jelly Roll All-stars" are a loosely knit group of veterans who have recorded under many names with varying results. This particular group includes Sam Carr on the skins as well as Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, harpist & vocalist Arthur Williams and bass player Calvin Jones. Recorded live in WROX Radio studios in Clarksdale Miss., this set has the raw, in your face fidelity of a good delta juke band. The recording ambiance only adds to the low down feel. Jimmy Reed, Sonny Boy and other giants loom in the backround while the group chugs out it's own versions of the classics we never grow tired of hearing.
