Underappreciated is right! Bobby, who sounds like a cross between Little Willie John, Ray Charles and James Brown (who he always regarded as a jerk), was a triple threat. He sang, worked the strings with just the right mix of blues and jazz and wrote songs ("Watch Your Step," "Blues Stay Off My Shoulder") that have been covered many times and have stood the test of time. He was a friend and colleague and he's gone. You can't see him perform in 2020 but he leaves behind this and another, great funky Black Top album as a funky legacy. And if you like Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, Lonnie Brooks or Z.Z. Hill, you owe it to yourself to snag this one! I miss him.
