This album features the best loved Jamaican chart hits from 1962. The early 1960s was an incredibly active time within Jamaica both politically and musically. Having achieved independence the year before, a new cultural identity developed on the island that was reflected in the joyous attitude of the music. With the success of Chris Blackwell’s newly established Island Records, many Jamaican labels and artists began to find success both overseas and of course domestically. Some of these labels included Blue Beat, All-Stars, Studio One, Beverley’s and Creative and some of the artists, all featured on this album, include Laurel Aitken, Derrick Morgan, Prince Buster, Jimmy Cliff, Owen Gray as well as groups such as The Blues Busters, The Belltones, and The Jiving Juniors........
