Description
One of the first recordings at the MALACO studios in Jackson Mississippi (along with Mississippi Fred McDowell's I DO NOT PLAY NO ROCK & ROLL) this 1969 recording brought attention to harmonica wizard "Papa George" whose mid 50's recordings had been reissued around the same time and were a source of amazment by blues harmonica lovers. His tough sounding harmonica & gruff vocals still shine on these recordings. When he burst onto the scene with his outrageous harmonica stomper 'Wine, Women and Whisky' in 1954, not much was known about Papa George Lightfoot, let alone his whereabouts. Things were like that in those days. Eventually tracked down by producer Steve LaVere to Natchez, Mississippi, the duo booked a session in 1969 and laid down this jukejoint classic named after the 400+ mile forest trail in the state..........
